Life has been so full lately, in a good way. Between half-marathon training and long road trips for vacations, I had lots of listening time this past month. I do a lot of runs with the kids, but on some of my longer runs, they just can’t hang the whole time, so I get a few solo miles in. Those quiet miles are some of my favorite times to listen to something new and refresh my mind to think about business and money, my two favorite topics.
Here are a few of my favorite podcasts from February that stood out during those runs and drives. Hopefully, you’ll find one or two worth adding to your own listening list.
Money Meets Medicine is a regular on my listen list lately. They had an episode called Why the FIRE Movement Fails Physicians (And What to Do Instead) that I really enjoyed. I don’t personally resonate with everything the FIRE community preaches, and this episode offered a helpful alternative perspective. My focus is on creating a lifestyle that I enjoy while still doing the practical things necessary for financial freedom. This conversation touched on that balance and was a good listen.
The How of Business talked about setting your small business up to sell in this podcast Why Your Business Will Sell. One of the downfalls of many small businesses is that owners build everything around themselves, which means the business isn’t very sellable because nobody wants to buy another job. This episode focused on building systems, documenting processes, and developing leadership so the business can run without you. I especially liked the discussion about “planning” your exit early, even if you don’t plan to sell anytime soon, and making decisions with that possibility in mind. If you’re in the small business space, this was an easy listen.
The Money Guy Show had an episode called How To Pull The Levers of Wealth Creation (By Age) that I sent to a few friends to listen to. So many people I know simply don’t know how to get started. I’ve been preaching the importance of margin in my own life and to anyone willing to listen when I start talking about personal finance. That concept was a big focus in this episode, and it included some practical tips for getting started if you haven’t yet. I also appreciated their discussion of financial “seasons,” which tied in well with the ideas I shared recently in my Net Worth/Cash Flow series.
Finally, Motley Money Show had an episode called 2 Go-To Market Indicators, 6 Stock Ideas for the Next 5 Years. They talked about the market and what AI may mean for the companies you choose to invest in. Should access to AI talent influence your investment decisions? Could this become a competitive advantage for companies, the same way software development talent has been over the past decade? I liked how they approached AI in business. It’s a quick listen and includes some real companies worth researching if you invest in individual stocks.
There’s always something new to learn when you’re willing to listen. These were a few that stood out to me this month. Hopefully, one or two resonate with you as well.
